Brief information

  • Smart, attentive and calm hunting dog;
  • Likes competition;
  • Suitable for city life.

Character

The Pointer is from England. This hunting dog is a real aristocrat, who is distinguished by endurance, affection and calmness. A dog of this breed becomes attached to the owner and tries to please him in everything, so it is important not to leave the pointer alone for a long time, otherwise he will get bored and start to yearn.

Like three hundred years ago, pointers serve hunters faithfully, and if you plan to get this hunting dog as a companion, then be prepared for daily activities with your pet. The Pointer is very passionate when it comes to games. It is during the game that one can observe how his innate hunting instinct manifests itself.

On a walk, the Pointer is a real athlete. If the owner is jogging or cycling, the dog will be happy to run alongside. Without exercise, the Pointer’s temperament deteriorates and the dog can become uncontrollable.

Behaviour

As a guard, this dog is not always good. He can warn the owner about intruders, but because of his kindness, he is unlikely to stop the thief. Still, the main purpose of this dog is hunting, and in this it has no equal.

However, aversion to aggression is a definite plus of this breed. Thanks to its gentle nature and patience, the Pointer is an ideal candidate for the role of a family pet with children. He will not pay attention to screams and squeals, but will be happy to run and play with the kids. In addition, the pointer is quite friendly towards other animals, with the exception of birds, which he may consider the object of hunting.

However, like any dog, representatives of this breed need socialization. Pointer training begins at an early age. He is quite easy to train , because he seeks to please the owner. It is believed that this dog at any age is happy to follow commands . But the focus should be on developing hunting skills, and not performing tricks and tricks.

English Pointer Care

The Pointer has a short coat that does not require careful maintenance. It is enough to wipe the pet once a week with a damp towel, and twice during the molting period.

The weak point of the breed is considered to be very delicate and sensitive skin. To treat the dog from insects, hypoallergenic products should be used. The same applies to the choice of shampoo for bathing . By the way, water procedures are required only as needed.
