Character
The Irish Wheaten Terrier is one of the representatives of the Irish group of dogs. Its closest relatives are the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Irish Terrier. All three breeds are believed to have descended from the same type of dog. But it is the Wheaten Terrier that most resembles its ancestors, and, most likely, it appeared a little earlier than its relatives. So, the first mention of it is found in the books of the 17th century. However, the breed was officially recognized by the Irish Kennel Club only in 1937.
The Irish Wheaten Terrier has always been a “folk” dog. He helped exterminate rats and rodents, served as a guard and sometimes helped the shepherds. Today it is an excellent contender for the title of everyone’s favorite for a large active family.
The Irish Wheaten Terrier, like most terriers, is a real fidget. He cannot spend all day in the four walls waiting for the owner, even if you offer him a lot of toys and entertainment.
Behaviour
Representatives of this breed will be happy next to an energetic person who is ready for daily jogging, sports, games and walks in the forest. He is also an excellent student in agility classes.
Stubborn and independent, the wheaten terrier quickly becomes attached to the owner, whom he considers the leader of the pack. But, before this happens, a person will have to prove his status. If you do not have experience with dogs, it is better to seek help from a dog handler .
A well-bred wheaten terrier is a real sucker. He loves affection and is ready to spend with the owner 24 hours a day! So if you don’t have time for a dog, wheaten terrier is not the best choice. He demands attention and love. Conditions of detention
