Character

The Yakutian Laika is an ancient native dog breed that was bred by the northern peoples of Russia. These four-legged helpers were first described by the Dutch ethnographer Nicholas-Cornelisson Witsen in the 17th century. It is known that it was the Yakut Laikas who helped the expeditions of Vitus Bering, the Laptev brothers and Semyon Chelyuskin to explore the most severe territories of Russia.

Since ancient times, the peoples of the Far North have used huskies not only for riding in teams, but also as hunting assistants. With them they went to the arctic fox, wolf and even bear. And so far, representatives of the breed do an excellent job with their duties.

Yakutian Laikas are versatile dogs. They have a pleasant character and are unpretentious in content. The breed is suitable for both single people and families with children.

Behaviour

Representatives of the breed are calm, balanced and self-confident. And the last quality is on the verge of pride. These dogs know their worth, so they can show independence and independence. However, they are strongly attached to the owner and try to earn praise. They are highly discouraged from being left alone for a long time, especially if only one pet lives in the house: longing and boredom can spoil the character of the dog.

Yakutian Laikas are easy to train . Smart, inquisitive and quick-witted, they literally grab information on the fly. In their studies, they will be diligent and assertive, but, of course, subject to well-established contact with the coach.

By the way, Yakut Laikas are neutral and even cold towards strangers. Representatives of the breed are excellent guards, so earning their trust is not so easy.

The Yakutian Laika is a sociable and very sociable dog. She will thrive in the company of other pets, including dogs and cats. Sometimes it can strive for leadership, but if someone stronger is nearby, it will not insist.

With children, huskies quickly form a “team”. Representatives of the breed are famous for their love for babies, and these dogs make very gentle and caring nannies. The pet will endure children’s antics to the last, and in extreme cases, it will prefer to leave the game unnoticed.

The Yakutian Laika has a thick and like a plush coat. To maintain its beauty, the dog needs to be combed weekly. During the period of undercoat change, in autumn and spring, this procedure is carried out daily, as these dogs shed quite heavily.

Conditions of detention

The Yakutian Laika is not suitable for keeping in a city apartment. This dog will become a great friend for people living outside the city, in a private house. Representatives of the breed need personal space.

Wool allows the Yakut Laika to comfortably endure the most severe frosts of central Russia. But the heat for these dogs will be a real test. In summer, they need to be given constant access to fresh water and the opportunity to lie in the shade.
