long stem

Longstalk or “Purple Bamboo”, the English trade name for the Poaceae is “Purple Bamboo”. In Asia it is often supplied under the name Polygonum sp. Type 2. This herbaceous plant looks like a miniature version of bamboo due to the tall strong stem with characteristic internodes, which are long (up to 8 cm) leaves. Depending on the growth conditions, the leaf blade may acquire purple and silver hues.

It grows quickly, reaching a height of more than a meter, so when placed in aquariums it will most likely outgrow the surface of the water. Regular pruning is necessary, if it is not done, additional side shoots are formed. Longstem is most popular in minimalist natural aquascapes and paludariums. One of the key attractive features is the appearance of large oxygen bubbles at the leaf nodes.

The plant shows its best colors in bright light, the presence of nutrient soil with a high content of nitrogenous compounds and potassium, and the additional introduction of carbon dioxide.
