Is it possible to raise an adult dog

It happens that people are tempted to take an adult dog – after all, it must already be educated and trained, so to speak, a “finished product”. And others, on the contrary, are afraid to take adult dogs, fearing that they cannot be raised. The truth, as in many cases, is somewhere in between.

Yes, on the one hand, an adult dog already seems to be brought up and trained. But … how often do well-bred and trained dogs get “in good hands”? Of course no. “You need such a cow yourself.” And, even when moving to another country, they try to either take such dogs with them right away, or leave relatives / friends to pick them up later. So most often, if a dog settles down “in good hands”, it means that not everything was so simple with the previous owners.

If you decide to take an adult dog, be sure to find out why they are giving it away. However, the previous owners are not always honest, and this is also worth considering.

But even if the previous owners told everything honestly, the dog may surprise you. According to studies, 80% of dogs in new families do not show the same problems. But new ones may appear.

In addition, an adult dog usually needs more time to adapt to new conditions and get used to new people.

Does this mean that it is impossible to raise an adult dog? Of course not! Dogs can be raised and trained at any age. However, if your pet has had a bad experience, including in the area of ​​training (for example, using violent methods), it may take quite a long time for you to change associations with activities. In addition, it is always more difficult to retrain than to train from scratch.

To take or not to take an adult dog is up to you. In any case, no matter how old the pet is, it will require attention, patience, costs (time and money), competent education and training from you. And if you are willing to invest all this, the chances of getting a good friend and companion are great, regardless of the age of the dog.
