Guinea pigs and other animals

For many of us, one pet is not enough, and sooner or later we think about replenishing the home zoo. However, it is worth considering the well-being of the rest of the inhabitants of the house. Can a guinea pig live with other animals? There are guinea pigs that are not too afraid of dogs and do not even try to run away from them. Of course, if the dog does not attempt to eat the rodent. However, do not flatter yourself and leave a guinea pig alone with a dog – at one unpleasant moment a tragedy can break out. Be careful with cats, because guinea pigs are natural prey for them. And even if the purr does not get to the rodent locked in the cage, trying to get to the small animal can cause a lot of stress in the guinea pig. The guinea pig does not feel very good when living together with birds (especially parrots), rats, mice, hamsters, squirrels or chinchillas. A guinea pig will not show aggression, but an imposed unnatural partnership can cause suffering. However, wait to despair: everything is not so hopeless! There is an animal with which a guinea pig can safely get along – this is a rabbit. An adult guinea pig will get along well with a decorative rabbit, approximately equal in size to it, or even with a larger eared one. They are ready to dine together and rest, snuggling up to each other, as well as cleaning each other’s fur. Sometimes a guinea pig climbs onto a rabbit’s back, and the rabbit usually doesn’t mind.
