What are the types of training?

In a very simple way, training can be defined as teaching a dog to perform certain actions or maintain given postures at the command of a person.

И training – this is the formation of levers and ways to control the dog. And this is necessary, first of all, to save the life of the dog. An unruly dog can go there I don’t know where and do that I don’t know what. For example, she can do something incompatible with life – run out onto the roadway.

An uncontrollable dog will poison the life, first of all, of its owner and members of his family. Then she will poison the lives of her neighbors, their dogs and cats, and then she will take up the poisoning of the lives of all the other passers-by she meets.

In addition, the education of a dog is based on the principles of training. Education is also education. And living with an ill-bred dog is like living with a bad tooth.

In addition, training is a form of communication between a person and a dog. During training, specific relations of “boss-subordinate” (“leader-follower”, “senior partner-junior partner”, “senior friend-younger friend”, “respected and respectful” – choose role relationships to taste) are established, a peculiar language is formed interactions between dogs and humans.

If you want to do breeding work and have a breeding class dog, then for many breeds of dogs the development of any training course is a condition for admission to breeding. Yes, even if a dog of your breed does not need such a course, then just imagine for a moment how you came to the exhibition with an uncontrollable dog. Yes, you and your dog will be immediately taken out of the ring under white hands and furry little paws. And there will be no breeding for you!

If you are the owner of a dog from the so-called group of working dogs, then you should know that without work they are bad. And here sports training comes to the rescue as an analogue and substitute for work. In training and competition, hereditary needs and desires of such dogs are realized. In addition, playing sports is useful for the owner of the dog. And if you dream of sports glory and want to make a sports career, then with your dog you can become a master of sports or a world champion. The dog will lead you to people!

But the most amusing thing is that even those comrades who are not comrades to us, that is, those comrades who deny the need for training, unconsciously engage in it. Because in the process of living with a dog, they still influence it, respectively, shaping this or that behavior. And this is training, but unconscious, chaotic, undirected and often irresponsible.

So give up and submit. From training is nowhere to be found.

Now you can answer the question of what types of training exist. Usually a set of specific skills is called a training course. Some of them help solve several of the tasks listed above, and some are very specialized.

If you think that your dog is a “companion” and does not perform any special functions, except for the function of an object of adoration, then you need to master the obedience course. In this case, the general training course (OKD) is suitable for you. Having mastered it, you will not only support the domestic manufacturer, but also end up with yourself, initiated into the secrets of training, and an obedient dog.

The OKD course includes the formation of the following skills:

1. Display of the dental system, attitude to the muzzle, transition to a free state;

2. Attitude to feed, forbidding fu command;

3. Fetching;

4. Return to the place;

5. Approach to the trainer;

6. Stand, landing, laying (checked in the complex);

7. The movement of the dog next to the trainer;

8. Overcoming obstacles;

9. Controllability of the dog when fired.

OKD is both a sports course and a breeding course for some breeds. And he is recognized by all cynological organizations of the Russian Federation.

The international course “Companion Dog” is a course that compares favorably with the fact that in the process of mastering it, you and your dog will be told and shown how to behave not only on the training ground, but also on the streets of the city. The course is recognized by FCI and RKF.

During the VN course, your dog will be taught:

  • ease, which is understood as a calm attitude when checking a brand or chip by an outsider;
  • movement nearby on a leash and without a leash;
  • landing while driving;
  • laying with a call;
  • stacking in the presence of distractions.

They will also teach the dog to behave with dignity:

  • when meeting a group of people on the street;
  • when meeting with a cyclist;
  • when meeting with the car;
  • when meeting with a runner or a person on roller skates;
  • when meeting other dogs;
  • when she is left alone on a leash in front of a store the owner has entered.

Many training grounds also offer Educational Training and Guided City Dog (UGS) courses. Unlike OKD and VN, these are informal courses. The course “Educational Training” is a simplified version of OKD, it is designed for puppies and is preparatory to mastering OKD skills.

The following skills are mastered at the UGS course:

1. The movement of the dog next to the trainer;

2. Landing and laying the dog in motion with the departure of the owner from the dog, followed by exposure;

3. Calling the dog while walking the dog without a leash;

4. Relation to the muzzle;

5. Teeth display;

6. Attitude towards scattered feed;

7. Attitude towards the shot;

8. Teaching the dog to wait for the owner in an urban environment.

Sports training courses are very diverse and able to satisfy the most demanding aspirations of both owners and dogs.

Sports with dogs can be practiced both under the auspices of the RKF and under the flag of the Ministry of Sports of Russia, since officially there is such a sport as “sports and applied dog breeding”. That is, by doing this sport with your dog, you can become a Master of Sports in sports and applied dog breeding.

In the All-Russian Register of Sports, competitions are registered in “IPO (service triathlon)”, “Obidiens”, “Combination (general course of training and protective guard service)”, “General training course” (OKD), “Protection guard service” ( ZKS), “Water Rescue Service”, “Search and Rescue Service”, “Tracking”, “Towing a Skier”, “Winter All-Around” and “Eventing”.

The RKF holds competitions in such courses as IPO, “Obedience“,”Agility“,”flyball“,”Dancing with dogs“,”Mondoring“,” Big Russian ring “,”Sled dog racing“,”Weight pulling”,“ Greyhound racing and coursing ”,“ Shepherd service.

Which training course to choose depends not only on what you got the dog for. The choice is also determined by your physical data, and the breed of your dog. For example, such a wonderful and easily trained dog as Labrador, will be a complete loser when mastering the course of the big Russian ring, and Cane Corso unlikely to achieve decent results in agility. And the rest is all determined by your taste. And do not forget that training is then needed, that it puts the mind in order. And not only canine, but also human. So every dog needs training!
