Self-training: which breeds are suitable?

In other cases, if we talk about obedience, the owner of the dog trains it on his own, even visiting training area. At the training site, the owner is taught how to train his dog at home. At the training site, homework is assessed, mistakes are corrected, and the owner is instructed to achieve the next success. Even with the so-called individual training – when the owner of the dog and the dog are engaged with the instructor in splendid isolation, the dog is still trained by the owner, that is, himself, that is, independently. The instructor tells, shows, corrects and corrects only the owner.

Self-training is difficult or impossible for those courses that require special equipment, specific conditions or the presence of special assistants. For example, to train a dog in protective guard service (ZKS) or modding It will be difficult on your own, to put it mildly.

But let’s take an extreme case of self trainingwhen the owner does not want or cannot for some reason use the help of a specialist, which, probably, was implied by the question. This refers to the assistance of a specialist as an individual. However, the owner of the dog will use books or films written or filmed by the very specialists with whom he has refused to communicate or cannot communicate with them, because he lives in a remote village.

The only time you shouldn’t train a dog yourself is when you’re going to train your first pet with no experience.

Neither books nor videos, unfortunately, can convey information adequately enough to avoid errors. An inexperienced dog owner misunderstands the terms, assesses the importance of this or that impact on the dog, stage, environmental conditions, does not attach the necessary importance to one or another advice of the authors.

Therefore, it is advisable to train the first dog not on your own, but under the supervision of a specialist. And having gained experience, the owner will be able to independently form the obedience skills he needs in his dog, regardless of breed.

Have you heard that there are dog breeds that cannot be taught obedience skills on their own with some experience?

Excuse me, but were these rocks thrown to us by aliens? And Caucasian Shepherdand american staffordshire bull terrierand dogo argentino bred by ordinary people for ordinary people. And now these dogs live happily in thousands of happy families and obediently walk the streets of settlements.

So, the possibility or impossibility of self-training is determined not by the breed of the dog, but by the presence of the appropriate knowledge and experience of the owner. But if you want this, then only your first dog is categorically not advised to train on your own.
