The parrot flew outside, SOS!

Parrots are lost from many owners. Even the most attentive and responsible. Everyone knows that when releasing a bird to fly around the apartment, first of all, you need to close all windows and doors. But there is a human factor. Any member of the family on a stuffy day can open the window, forgetting about the pet for a second. But this second is enough for the parrot to fly into the street. A feathered dodger can even slip through an open front door when household members return from work or meet guests. And some, especially resourceful, manage to open the cage right during the walk. Be that as it may, the parrots are lost. But you should not panic. You have every chance to bring the fugitive home!

  • Flight path trackers

If a parrot flew out the window right in front of your eyes, do not rush to run after it. See where he goes. As a rule, parrots land on the trees closest to the house. By determining the direction of flight, you will find it faster.

  • Leave the vent open

A parrot that has flown out of a window may return the same way after some time. Therefore, do not rush to close the windows. You can even lure your pet by placing his favorite treats on the windowsill or by placing a feeder and drinker.

  • Attract with sounds

A lost parrot finds himself in a hostile environment. Yes, instinct dictates to him to fly free, but he does not even realize that outside the window there are not warm tropical forests, but cold, hunger and danger. Once outside the house, among unfriendly wild birds, the parrot will be frightened. But the voice of a friend will act on him like a magnet. If possible, open a window and turn on the recording with the voices of parrots (of the same species as yours). And if you have a second parrot, put the cage with it on the windowsill. Hearing familiar sounds, dear to the heart, the pet will rush home.

  • Do not panic

A second ago you saw a parrot – and now it has already disappeared from your field of vision. Do not rush to run wherever your eyes look! Stay in place for 5-10 minutes. Parrots often fly in circles. Perhaps your pet will soon return to its original place.

  • Define search radius

If the disappearance of the parrot was not immediately noticed and you do not know where it flew, first inspect the nearest yards. Look for a pet on trees, window sills and balconies of houses, if possible on roofs. Look under cars: frightened parrots can hide there. Listen carefully to surrounding sounds: medium-sized parrots are easier to hear than to see in tall trees, especially in summer.

How far can parrots fly? They usually land near the house. But the threat from other birds and animals, hunger and thirst can make them fly further. The parrot search radius can be safely extended to 2 km.

  • How to catch a parrot on the street?

Hooray, you found a parrot! There he is, sitting right in front of you, in the tree. But how do you take it off? Some are looking for a high ladder, others call the rescue service … But there is no guarantee that the parrot will not get scared and fly away, barely seeing hands reaching out to him. The best way is to approach the tree with a cage, food and water. Calmly name the parrot, pour water from container to container, pour food on your palm – these actions can attract a parrot, and he will fly up to you. But be prepared to wait. Stock up on patience!

If the parrot has not come down before nightfall, go home. At night, he will not fly from place to place and, most likely, will remain in place. If possible, leave the cage near the tree. There is a chance that he will climb into it to spend the night. If the next day you want to catch the bird in the same place, it is better to be in time before dawn, until it sets off to explore new horizons.

  • Notify the neighbors

The more people in your area who know about the missing parrot, the more likely it is to be found. Hang ads at the entrances, post on social networks. In the text, give key information about the parrot. For example, many people do not know what a macaw looks like, but if you write that a large blue and yellow parrot with a long tail is missing, you will be better understood. Be sure to write about the reward.

Often “walking up” parrots fly into other people’s apartments or land on other people’s window sills. If the landlord has seen your ad, he will definitely contact you!

In the future, try to prevent your pet from running away. First of all, install a strong mesh on the windows.

Having returned the fugitive home, carefully examine him. Perhaps the parrot has injuries, parasites or frostbite (during the cold season). Be sure to contact your veterinarian.

Don’t forget that your pet has been through a lot of stress. Take care of his diet and make sure that no one interferes with his rest. The parrot needs time to recover.

We really hope that your search will end successfully, and we will be glad if you share your story with us.

Best of luck!
