How to understand that a cat is worried?

There are many reasons why a cat is worried. As well as ways to cope with stress. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that distress (“bad” stress) not only adversely affects the well-being of the cat, but also affects its behavior.

There are a number of behavioral problems that can be signs of distress in cats:

  • The cat scratches furniture intensively.
  • The cat goes to the toilet past the tray.
  • The cat is too eager to lick itself.
  • The cat meows all the time.
  • The cat often bites or scratches.
  • The cat is trying to hide.

Like other living beings, in the fight against anxiety, the cat chooses one of the following strategies: run, fight, freeze, or try to appease the enemy. But unlike dogs, cats often prefer to fight, even with an opponent much larger than themselves. If the cat has the opportunity to run away and hide, most likely, it will soon calm down and return to its former, calm state.

There are physiological signs that indicate acute anxiety:

  • Cardiopalmus.
  • Frequent breathing.
  • High blood pressure.

What to do if the cat is worried?

If the cat is worried, you need to help her cope with this condition. This can be done by observing the following principles:

  1. If the cat is nervous in the presence of guests, in no case don’t force her to communicate with them (for example, do not bring force into the room with guests). In this case, the cat will feel that it has been driven into a trap, and, trying to escape, may injure you too.
  2. If the cat climbed onto the closet in search of salvation, don’t try to steal it from there. You can try to lure her with a treat or just leave her alone – she will come down herself when she is ready.
  3. If the source of anxiety cannot be eliminated for some time, it may be worth give the cat a sedative. But in this case, be sure to consult a veterinarian.
  4. If the cat is worried about watching other animals through the window, the window should be closed.
  5. Больше play with the catif she makes contact.
  6. Revise schedule – Perhaps the cause of concern lies precisely in it.
  7. Give your cat a chance avoid communication with people or animals that scare her (for example, equip a “second tier” and set up shelters).
  8. In some cases, you can not do without the help of a specialist.
