Siamese kitten care

If a Siamese kitten struck your heart with blue eyes, a graceful figure and touching pointed ears, then before taking a four-legged tenant, you should understand the features of this unique breed, around which there are many myths and conjectures.

Who is suitable for the breed

Siamese are a dog soul in a cat body. They are sociable and sociable, quickly become attached to the owner and follow him on the heels. Such an outgoing cat cannot stand being alone, so be prepared to make time for her. In gratitude for the attention, the Siamese cat will give you great devotion and love. But, if he doesn’t get enough companionship, you’re in for apartment riots, so busy people who are rarely home should consider other breeds.

How to choose a kitten and where is the best place to buy it

It is better to purchase a four-legged friend in proven nurseries, having carefully studied the metrics. It usually indicates the breed, color, date of birth, the nickname of the kitten and the nicknames of the parents. The metric can be exchanged for a pedigree, which will be needed if you decide to participate in exhibitions.

How to know if a kitten is purebred

Checking for compliance of the animal with breed standards does not hurt, even if you purchase it from a breeder. The standards provide for the shape of the head in the form of an equilibrium triangle, on which large elongated ears are located. The body of the Siamese is elongated, the paws are slender, and the tail is thin and even, tapering from the base to the tip.

The coat of kittens is short and soft. The color of Siamese cats is called color-point. This is a combination of light body hair and darker areas on the paws, tail, muzzle and ears. An interesting fact is that Siamese kittens are usually born white, and only after a few days dark points begin to appear. But if they did not appear or are poorly expressed, perhaps this is a tribal marriage. Such a pet is not suitable for participation in exhibitions.

Pay attention to the eyes of Siamese kittens. The shape of the eyes is almond-shaped, and the color according to the standard is bright blue. A green tint will be considered a deviation from the norm.

How to care for a Siamese kitten

Siamese cat care is standard and not very complicated. Wool, unlike the coats of long-haired cats, does not need careful care – to maintain the beauty of the fur, you can iron it once a week with a wet hand. During the shedding period, the Siamese should be combed out with a special silicone glove. A kitten will have to be taught oral hygiene from childhood: Siamese cats need to brush their teeth 1-2 times a month.

What to feed a Siamese kitten? Specialized complete food that contains a balanced amount of nutrients, including vitamins and minerals. You need to select food taking into account the age, gender, breed and activity of the pet and, of course, it is better to consult with a veterinarian.

Make sure your baby always has water. And, of course, do not forget about a cozy bed – provide a safe corner with a sleeping place, and put a scratching post next to it.

Why can a kitten’s ears rise?

Ears are an important reference when communicating with a cat. Depending on their position, you can understand what emotions she is experiencing.

  1. The ears of the kitten are straight, and the tips are directed forward – the baby is calm.
  2. The ears stand straight, but the tips are spread apart – the kitten is angry.
  3. The ears are pressed to the sides – the kitten is preparing to defend itself, it may be alarmed.
  4. The ears stand erect, the tips pointing backwards when sniffing, an automatic and involuntary posture.

Paying attention to the stand of the ears, you will understand whether you should calm the baby in case of anxiety or bypass it if the kitten decided to show character.

So, the Siamese is already at your place. The only thing left is to decide how to name the kitten. When choosing a name, be guided by your own preferences, as well as the gender and temperament of the pet. You can give a nickname according to the color of the animal.
