persian kittens

Adorable fluffy babies and adult cats full of dignity – the Persian breed has been popular all over the world for almost two centuries for a reason. But does this mean that a Persian kitten is a universal choice for any family? Let’s figure it out together.

How to choose

The definition of “Persian cat” is far from exhaustive. They are classic, short-nosed, extreme and exotic (short-haired). And by color, Persians are completely divided into almost 100 varieties. But before you choose between cream, smoky, purple or red, check out our instructions.

  •  Determine Compatibility

There are no bad cats – there are those that are not suitable for you personally. So, Persian cats are distinguished by calmness (if not shyness) and measured (if not lazy) way of life. If you want to get a companion for active games and walks, take a closer look at other breeds. But for introverts and couch potatoes, a Persian cat will be a good choice. In addition, Persians are friendly to children, as well as other cats and even dogs.

  • Find a seller

You can buy a pet (or even accept it as a gift) using one of the countless ads. But if you do not want to get a “kitten in a poke”, go to a specialized cattery. There you can evaluate not only the pet’s pedigree and health passport (I also call it a veterinary passport), but also the conditions in which the fluffy baby was kept.

  • Check breed

You can find characteristic signs in a kitten yourself: Persians are given out by the shape of the nose, massive head, color and long hair. But it is guaranteed that only an experienced veterinarian or a DNA test can determine the breed.

How to name a kitten

The nickname for a Persian, as a rule, reflects its origin or appearance. Peach, Fluff, Smoky, Ginger … But there are more original options that will emphasize the sophistication and nobility of the pet.

How to care

  • Comb out

Perhaps this is the first thing that comes to mind when looking at a Persian cat. A luxurious coat will not last long without constant care, so almost all Persians need to be brushed every day. The exception is short-haired exotics: two procedures per week are enough for them.

  • Monitor the health

Persian cats most often suffer from kidney disease. Prevention of these diseases is to control the drinking regimen, supportive diet and regular visits to the veterinarian.

Another feature of Persian cats is increased tearfulness. To prevent inflammation of the skin and hair loss around the eyes, it is necessary to wipe the pet’s muzzle every day with a clean, soft cloth.

  • Feed

Perhaps not as often as the cat asks. Persians are prone to overeating and obesity, so their diet must be carefully monitored. It is not necessary to accustom representatives of this breed to food from the master’s table – it can provoke diseases of the digestive system and the genitourinary system in them.

But then what to feed the kitten? Individually selected food that contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals. And don’t forget fresh water!

  • Play

Do not wait until the pet wants to play – he may prefer an afternoon nap to hunting for a ball. Take the initiative and teach your kitten to physical activity from childhood, at least 10-15 minutes a day.

Persian cats are perhaps the most domestic of all pets. You are provided with warmth, comfort and affectionate purring!
