Santa Catarina Peristolifolia
Peristolilum Santa Catarina, scientific name Myriophyllum aquaticum var. Santacatarinense. It is a subspecies of the Brazilian Peristololium. The plant originates from wetland regions in southern Brazil. It was first discovered by the researcher Christel Kasselmann during an expedition in the state of Santa Catarina, which is reflected in the name of this subspecies.
In favorable conditions, it forms a long, erect, weakly branching stem. Leaflets consist of a central vein and numerous “needles” that diverge evenly in both directions. The main color is green, but under intense light, yellow or reddish hues may appear.
Perististolist Santa Catarina is considered unpretentious and easy to maintain plant. Able to grow in a very wide range of temperatures, including cool water up to 5°C, which allows its use in open ponds. Makes low demands on the hydrochemical composition of water, the level of illumination and the mineral composition of the soil.
It will be a good choice for beginner aquarists. All that is required is to place it in the ground and periodically cut it.
