Types of Aquarium Plants

Ranalism

Ranalisma, scientific name Ranalisma rostratum. In nature, it grows in tropical and subtropical Asia along the banks of swampy reservoirs, backwaters of rivers. Grows both above water on wet substrates and in shallow water.

In the surface environment, it forms a compact bush of many leaves collected in a rosette. The leaf blade is oval or heart-shaped, 3–4 cm in size with a pointed tip, located on a long petiole (12–30 cm).

When under water, the leaves change noticeably. The leaf blades are elongated, acquiring a lanceolate shape, and the petioles become short. Outwardly, it begins to resemble Helanthium tender, which is why it was previously erroneously supplied under this name.

Ranalisma needs bright lighting and nutritious soil. Additional introduction of carbon dioxide stimulates active growth. In favorable conditions, thanks to the development of lateral shoots, this plant is able to cover large areas, creating a continuous green cover.

In small aquariums, it is used in the middle or foreground. In large tanks, it is placed in well-lit places where there is no threat of shading by large tall plants.
