Character

The Portuguese Water Dog has lived along the coast of Portugal for centuries and has been used to drive fish into nets and retrieve lost tackle. She acted as an intermediary between the ships and the shore. The fishermen counted on furry “partners”, and they never let them down. Even in foggy weather, the dog alerted its owner to the approach of the school to the shore.

This was true until the 20th century, when technology and social change threatened the very existence of the Portuguese Water Dog. The breed was on the verge of extinction when a Portuguese philanthropist decided to restore it in the 1930s. By the 1960s, it was already registered in International Cynological Federationand the English Kennel Club.

Today, the Portuguese Water Dog belongs to the class of working breeds, but it is often started as a companion. Hardworking, sympathetic and devoted pets adore attention and are completely devoted to the family.
