persicaria ruby

Persicaria ruby, scientific name Persicaria praetermissa. Previously erroneously referred to as Polygonum sp. “Ruby”, so it can sometimes be found under the name Ruby Polygonum.

In nature, it is found in vast areas from tropical Asia to Australia. It grows in wetlands along the banks of rivers, lakes and other bodies of water in a partially flooded state.

In the air it forms numerous creeping shoots. Forms a strong, but flexible thin reddish stem with green arrow-shaped leaves. Able to grow completely submerged in water. Under these conditions, the size of the plant decreases markedly, and the stems take on a vertical position. Leaf blades retain their shape, but elongate and acquire red or brown-green hues.

For healthy growth, it is necessary to provide soft nutrient soil, high levels of light and additional carbon dioxide. It is permissible to keep in medium light conditions, but in this case, Persicaria ruby loses the red color of the leaves.

In aquariums, it is desirable to place in the center, where there is more light, or use point light sources when planting on the sides or against the back wall.
