moss carpet

Fissidens nobilis or Carpet moss, scientific name Fissidens nobilis. It comes from tropical and subtropical Asia. Grows in damp damp places on rocks, snags and soil. It is not naturally an aquatic moss, but is capable of growing submerged in water, making it suitable for use in aquariums.

Moss forms numerous erect and slightly branched stems up to 6 cm high. The leaves are arranged in pairs on each tier and are in the same plane, which resembles fern shoots or miniature palm leaves. The leaf blade is up to 5 mm long and narrow up to 1.2 mm, has a narrow-lanceolate shape. Fissidens nobilis is often confused with Phoenix Moss (Fissidens fontanus). You can tell by the leaves. The first one is hard and hard, the second one is soft.

It is easy to grow, although unlike other mosses, it only needs warm, soft, slightly acidic water when in an aquarium and acidic soil when cultivated in humid greenhouses and paludariums. It grows very slowly under water, which is appreciated in professional aquascaping.
