Moss millimetric

Moss millimeter or Moss “Moose’s beard” is the collective name of the genus Barbula sp, which includes about 200 species. It is found everywhere throughout the Eurasian continent. In nature, it grows on rocks, on moist soil or underwater along the banks of reservoirs on stones and snags. In Europe, it can often be seen on the surface of the walls of ancient buildings, castles.

Moss millimetric

Moss forms short shoots branching at the base about 2.5 cm long, which overlap each other, forming something like a bush. On the shoots are miniature bright green “leaves” of a lanceolate form no more 2-x mm in length. The word “leaves” is in quotation marks, because mosses have leaf-like outgrowths.

Like other primitive plants (mosses, ferns), millimeter moss is completely unpretentious and can successfully grow in various conditions. The only limitation is a rather narrow temperature range of only seven degrees between 18 and 25. In an aquarium, it is advisable to place on any porous surface, such as wood, by attaching with a fishing line. After some time, moss as the rhizoid grows (something like roots) the moss will gain a foothold on its own, and the fishing line can be removed.
