Akmella creeping

Creeping Acmella, scientific name Acmella repens. It is a relatively small herbaceous plant with yellow flowers that is widely distributed in the southeastern United States, as well as in Central and South America from Mexico to Paraguay. Belongs to the Asteraceae family, for example, such popular plants as sunflower and chamomile also belong to it.

Used in the aquarium hobby since 2012. For the first time, the ability of Akmella creeping to grow completely submerged was discovered amateur aquarists from Texas (USA), having collected a few in local swamps. Now used in professional aquascaping.

In a submerged position, the plant grows vertically, so the name “creeping” may seem erroneous, it is applicable only to surface shoots. Outwardly, it resembles Gymnocoronis spilanthoides. On a long stem, green leaves are arranged in pairs, oriented towards each other. Each tier of leaves is at a considerable distance from each other. In bright light, the stem and petioles acquire Dark red brown tint. It is considered an unpretentious plant that can grow in various conditions. Can be used in paludariums. In a favorable environment, it is not uncommon to bloom with yellow flowers, similar to miniature sunflower inflorescences.
