Character

The national pride of Japan, Kishu is an amazing dog. It is believed that the age of the rock is more than two and a half thousand years! And the hunting scenes with the participation of kishu date back to the 14th century.

The formation of the breed took place on the island of Honshu, in the province of Kishu – hence, by the way, the name. The Japanese traditionally assign breeds the names of the territories where they were bred. There is a fabulous legend about the origin of white dogs.

Once a hunter met a lone wounded she-wolf in the forest. Instead of killing her, he left her. In return, the grateful she-wolf gave her cub to a man, and this wolf cub became the ancestor of all snow-white dogs. There is some truth in this legend: the hunters appreciated the agility and endurance of kishu, which they compared with wolves. In the 1940s, the breed was recognized as a Japanese heritage.

Behaviour

Kishu are excellent hunters, they are used to work with deer, wild boar and sometimes even with a bear. However, they also make wonderful companions.

Kishu, like many other Japanese dogs, is balanced, calm and somewhat arrogant in everyday life. They are independent and independent. Earning their trust is not easy, but if the owner has shown himself to be a leader, he can be calm: the pet will obey him implicitly.

Kishu is a rather strong dog, although of small stature. She can be a guard, but the defender will not come out of her very good: she does not trust strangers, but she is unlikely to decide to attack a person first.

Training a kitty is not that difficult. Smart and attentive dogs will appreciate logic toys and puzzles. Nevertheless, it is recommended to go through a general training course with a dog handler , so as not to correct the mistakes of education later.

Kishu’s attitude towards children is largely determined by the nature of the dog and the behavior of the kids. Some owners are convinced that this pet is not suitable for families with children. Others, on the contrary, argue that this is the best nanny.

Kishu get along well with relatives in the same territory, since dogs work in a pack when hunting. However, many representatives of the breed do not favor cats and rodents. In this matter, much depends on the animals themselves.

Kishu Care

Kishu is the owner of a short thick coat that requires weekly combing . During the shedding period, the dog should be combed 2-3 times a week with a furminator. Be prepared for an abundance of wool in the apartment.

Conditions of detention

Kishu is a small dog, but energetic and active. And this means that she needs appropriate walks. Running, fetching , playing, escorting the owner on a bicycle – anything. Also, the pet will appreciate the weekly walks in the park or in the forest, where you can warm up and run for your own pleasure.
