Husky rat – description of the variety with photos

The choice of a domestic rat as a pet is due to a number of factors: no need for walks, ease of care, the opportunity for a child to get the first experience of caring for and responsibility for another creature. Compared to other species of rodents, rats are distinguished by high contact and the ability to become attached to their owners.

Rat Husky: standard and general description

The variety of rats sometimes makes future owners confused. Relatively recently, Swedish breeders bred a new species based on the “standard” species, which was named “Husky”. A similar name appeared due to the similarity with the gray-white color of a well-known breed of dogs.

The main specificity of animals is the change of color throughout life. Primary colors in newborn rat pups:

• silver;

• redhead;

• blue;

• the black.

On the body are spots in the form of a cloak or hood. Each little rat is a lottery for the owner: it is impossible to predict exactly how the skin will re-bloom. Every time the owners expect a surprise.

Over the years, the “children’s” fur coat changes to adult fur, in which white hairs appear. The bloom lasts throughout life. According to the standards, the ideal color of a husky is “salt and pepper”, that is, an equal number of hairs in contrasting colors.

However, almost complete fading of the animal is often observed: the skin becomes practically white with a slight interspersed with black.

Another feature of the breed is the possibility of giving birth to a rat with both standard ears and large round “dambos”. Eye color varies from deep ruby ​​to scarlet. The tail, contrary to popular belief, is not bald, but covered with scales and small hairs. That is why, when leaving this part of the body, it is necessary to clean it especially carefully.

The behavior and habits of the Husky rat

Husky is an active rodent and requires constant entertainment. If the owner cannot spend all the time with the pet, it is necessary that the cage be equipped with:

• wheel;
• hanging toys;
• multi-level ladders;
• hammocks.

Rats of the Husky breed quickly get used to the name and hands of their beloved owner. Animals are well trained. You can train him so that, on command, the pet will easily climb onto his shoulder and hide in his pocket.

The animal is easily accustomed to the toilet, so it is permissible to let him out for walking around the apartment. Basic safety rules for self-walking:

• completely eliminate cables and wires – from the point of view of a rodent, these are excellent items for sharpening incisors;
• hide documents and necessary papers – an excellent building material for a husky mink will not be missed;
• exclude access to places where fabrics and bedding are folded – they are also suitable for building a home, and teeth are used in the process;
• control contact with other pets.

Experts recommend raising huskies surrounded by master’s love, and not in the company of other huskies. In the latter case, the animal can form aggressive behavior.

Difference from other decorative species

According to experienced rat breeders, the difference between Husky and other domestic rats lies solely in the features of color changes during life. It is not advisable to talk about characterological features, because even within a species, each individual differs in its preferences, temperament and degree of activity.

Features of the content of the breed

In maintenance and care, the rodent is unpretentious. Once purchased and equipped with the necessary accessories, the cage requires only regular cleaning and the correct selection of sawdust. In addition to toys, the dwelling should have a rest house, a feeder and a drinking bowl. If the cage was purchased large enough, a small bath should be placed in it: some individuals are happy to spend time in it.

The basis of the Husky diet is industrial feed offered by pet stores. It is also important to purchase a stone for sharpening teeth and healthy treats. Feeding natural food is also allowed, but the preparation of the menu requires taking into account many different factors.

Subject to the measures and active activities with the pet, the charming husky will please the owner for 3,5 years, which is quite a long life for a rat.
