Appearance of a great white-crested cockatoo

The great white-crested cockatoo is a large parrot with an average body length of about 46 cm and a weight of about 550 g. Both sexes are colored the same. The main color of the body is white, the undertail and inner parts of the wing are yellowish. The crest consists of large white feathers. The periorbital ring is devoid of feathers and has a bluish color. The beak is powerful gray-black, the paws are gray. The color of the iris in males of the great white-crested cockatoo is brown-black, in females it is orange-brown.

The life expectancy of a large white-crested cockatoo with proper care is about 40 – 60 years.

Habitat and life in nature of a large white-crested cockatoo

The large white-crested cockatoo lives in the Moluccas and Indonesia. The species is prey for poachers and also suffers from the loss of natural habitats. According to forecasts, the number of the species tends to decrease in number.

The large white-crested cockatoo lives in lowland and mountain forests at an altitude of up to 600 meters above sea level. They live in mangroves, coconut plantations, agricultural lands.

The diet of the great white-crested cockatoo includes seeds of various grasses of other plants, fruits, roots, nuts, berries and, probably, insects and their larvae. Visit the cornfields

Birds spend most of their time in forests. They usually live in pairs or small flocks. At dusk, birds may gather to spend the night in large flocks.

Reproduction of the great white-crested cockatoo

The nesting season of the great white-crested cockatoo falls on April-August. Like all other cockatoo species, they nest in hollows and hollows of trees.

The clutch of the great white-crested cockatoo usually contains 2 eggs. Both parents incubate the clutch for 28 days. Great white-crested cockatoo chicks leave the nest at about 13 to 15 weeks of age.
