Features of fluffy cat breeds

At the heart of their “image” is, of course, wool. Fluffy cats of long-haired breeds have long thick hair, which sometimes reaches more than five centimeters in length. It consists of hairs of different lengths: the shortest, softest and thinnest hairs form the undercoat, and the longest, thickest and harshest hairs form the upper integumentary layer. The long thick coat protects the undercoat and guard hairs from damage, and the skin from getting wet. The undercoat is located near the skin itself, helping to maintain normal body temperature. Without regular combing, it can fall off, forming a dense cover, like felt.

Fur care for fluffy cats and cats

  • Combing: ideally, this should be done daily, but it is also allowed less often – a couple of times a week. It improves not only the appearance of the cat, but also blood circulation, and also prevents wool from entering the stomach;

  • Removing matted hairballs: this is done using special tools (for example, a metal comb). In the most delicate places – more often on the stomach, under the arms, on the neck and in the groin – the hair can fall off, forming a tangle. The tangles are carefully cut off, after placing the comb between the cat’s skin and tangled hair;

  • Bathing: fluffy cat breeds need special hygiene. In the process of washing them, it is imperative to use special shampoos and conditioners for cats. Sometimes you can get by with dry shampoo – just apply it to dry hair, massage, scratch, then wipe with a towel;

  • Proper nutrition: food should be of high quality, contain the required amount of vitamins, minerals and other components that promote the growth and strengthening of the hairline; cats are also given a special malt-paste that cleans the intestines from lumps of wool swallowed when licking;

  • Haircut in the salon: brings beauty, lightness (especially in summer) and getting rid of potential tangles.

The most fluffy breeds

Persian cat

Persian – perhaps the most fluffy cat in the world, one of the oldest and most popular breeds. It is easily recognizable by the round and flat shape of the muzzle. To date, many varieties of Persians have been bred in color – white, black, gray, red, cream and others. A distinctive feature of his character is considered stubbornness and willfulness, perseverance. At the same time, the Persians are curious, love to play and follow the owner on the heels.

Ragdoll

The main differences are a very calm character and bewitching blue eyes. Its point color (light body, darker muzzle, ears, paws and tail) is fully developed by two years, and size and weight by four. The coat is silky, consisting mainly of long soft guard hairs and needs regular brushing with a steel comb. Ragdoll cats are very attached to people. They are very gentle and usually play without releasing their claws.

fluffy cats

York chocolate cat

The representatives of this artificially bred breed have widely spaced ears and eyes, a long and soft coat of even chocolate or lilac color (mixing is possible). Fluffy cats and cats in the photo sometimes show a white spot on the neck, smoothly passing to the chest. Kittens may be tabby or spotted, but as they grow older, the spots and stripes disappear. The Yorkie cat is friendly and loves petting, but is also smart, energetic and curious. Sometimes it can be shy.

fluffy cats

Siberian cat

This natural variety of domestic cats from Russia is considered the ancestor of today’s longhaired cats. The color is very diverse, the length of the coat varies from medium to long, there is a double undercoat. Between the pads of large and round paws there is an elongated fluff, the hind limbs are longer than the front ones, due to which a back bend is formed. This makes the Siberian cat an excellent jumper.

Ragamuffin

The list of the most fluffy breeds of cats and cats was replenished with a ragamuffin after crossing a ragdoll with a “pooch”. His coat is thick, dense, similar to rabbit fur, the tail tapers from the base to the tip and is covered with long thick hair, expressive eyes are green, blue or bronze. The phlegmatic nature of the animal, coupled with fluffiness and friendliness, makes it an ideal pet.

fluffy cats

american curl

Ears bent back – the main difference that requires careful handling and care. Fluffy kittens of this breed are born with straight ears, but already in the first week the ears begin to curl up, and by four months they are completely twisted, becoming stiff at the base and flexible at the ends. Curls have a silky coat that is close to the body, not prone to matting, a beautiful tail and collar, somewhat obliquely located eyes. They love all kinds of toys and need space to play with.

fluffy cats

Kurilian Bobtail

The most important feature is a short tail stuffed like a pom-pom. The back is slightly curved, the hind legs are longer than the front ones, like a Siberian cat, and there are also a “collar”, “panties” and tassels on the ears. In the wild, these cats have excellent fishing and hunting skills, perhaps this explains their love of water. Bobtail cats are gentle and smart, their inherent look of a wild cat did not affect their temperament in any way. Their physique is muscular, their eyes are most often yellow, green or yellow-green.

fluffy cats

Nibelung

This rather rare breed of beautiful fluffy cats is considered to be a long-haired version of the Russian Blue. The coat and undercoat of the Nibelungs are blue in color, due to tipping and reflection of light by the outer hair, a long thick cover has a silvery sheen. They have a rather muscular body, as well as widely spaced green eyes. Character – flexible, general appearance – graceful.

A long-haired variety of the Scottish Fold cat. With forward-curved ears, it looks like a fluffy owl. The coat of this natural cat breed is soft and silky, longer on the belly and flanks than on the head and shoulders. Large fluffy cats grow elongated tufts of hair from inside the ears and between the toes of the paws, some have a semblance of a lion’s mane around the neck. The Turkish Angora is athletic and playful, often looking for a perch from which to watch the action.

fluffy cats

Burmese cat

Cats and cats with fluffy tails of this breed are the result of crossing Siamese and American cats. Their coat is like that of the Persian, and the color is like that of the Siamese (darker on the ears, muzzle and limbs). Dark brown, chocolate, blue, lilac, red, smoky are the most popular colors, while on the paws there are always white “socks” or “gloves”. In addition to the point color, the Burmese cat is recognizable by its bright blue, sometimes even expressive blue eyes.
