Where and how to buy a kitten?

It is important to remember that even the purchase of a kitten from specialized breeders does not guarantee the absence of risks associated with the health or complex nature of the kitten. Therefore, it is good if you know what to look for before buying.

Basic rules for purchasing kittens

It is best if the future owner is personally present during the selection: many character traits and habits are already noticeable at the first meeting with the kitten. In addition, it is necessary to establish contact with the breeder, because it is better to consult with him if you have any questions. You need to prepare for a trip to the nursery: put on non-staining clothes and refrain from perfume – cats do not react well to strong odors.

It is better to purchase a kitten at the age of 3-4 months.

The first stage of vaccination is usually completed no earlier than 3 months. By the same time, the primary physical development of the animal is coming to an end. However, many breeders practice reserving an animal on a partial prepayment. In this case, an agreement is drawn up and a receipt for receiving money. At the time of direct purchase, the kitten must be, firstly, vaccinated, and secondly, have a veterinary passport with all marks.

Within 15 days after purchase, you should go to the veterinary clinic and examine the kitten. The animal must be healthy. Terminally ill or virus-infected pets are prohibited by law from being sold. If it so happened that the kitten was diagnosed with a serious illness, then within 15 days it is possible to cancel the transaction and return the money.

Where can I buy a kitten

  • Pedigree kittens are sold in specialized nurseries. Highly qualified specialists work there, who will gladly tell you everything about the animal and its character, as well as give recommendations on the conditions of keeping, care, and feeding habits. The breeder must have a veterinary passport of the animal with him. If there is no such nursery in the city, you can arrange to send the pet from another city. Sometimes breeders will agree to send a kitten with a trusted person by train or plane;
  • Very often, kittens are sold at specialized cat shows. There you can immediately look at the parents of the animal, learn more about the breed and character of the kitten. Do not forget to get acquainted with the pedigree, veterinary passport and conclude an agreement;
  • Another way to get a kitten is to choose one from a pet store. As a rule, healthy kittens are sold there and not very expensive;
  • It is worth paying attention to animal shelters. Often, not only homeless outbred cats get there, but also well-groomed thoroughbred animals that have been thrown into the street. In shelters, animals are washed, their hair is treated for fleas and ticks, a full-fledged veterinary examination is carried out and treated, if necessary;
  • Ads in newspapers and the Internet are also a good opportunity to get a pet;
  • You can also buy a kitten at the bird market, but there is a very high probability of acquiring a sick animal or running into scammers;
  • A kitten can be picked up on the street. But in this situation, the first thing to do is to contact a veterinarian to rule out serious illnesses of the animal, make the necessary vaccinations and take tests.
