Can cats have cheese?

Not that joy

According to statistics, 86% of owners regularly treat their pets with something. And, unfortunately, they often give them the wrong products. Yes, the most popular “delicacy” is a piece of raw meat; sausages are in second place, cheese is third. Then follow raw fish, dairy products, shrimp and so on.

The problem here is that the listed food does not benefit the pet and can even harm him. As for cheese, it is too high in calories for a cat. One 20-gram piece contains 70 kilocalories, that is, a third of the daily requirement of the animal.

Accordingly, we can talk at least about the cat gaining excess weight. But also the owner needs to take into account the fact that due to regular feeding with pieces of cheese the cat’s diet becomes unbalanced and may have a negative impact on the health of the pet in general in the long term.

Right choice of

And now – about the only reasonable alternative to the wrong treats. These are treats specially designed for cats. As a typical example, I will cite the Whiskas Duo Treats line, which has combinations of cheese with beef, chicken, turkey and salmon. There are similar offers from the brands Dreamies, Felix, Gimpet, Miamor.

Unlike a simple piece of cheese, they are designed specifically for cats and, no less important, they are moderate in calories: one Whiskas Duo Treats contains about 2 Kcal, or 1% of the daily value. This means that the cat not only enjoys the treat, but also gets rid of the risks associated with “human” nutrition.
