Brief information

  • Passionate hunter;
  • The obedience of a dog depends on the upbringing and willpower of the owner;
  • Initiative, purposeful.

Character

The Briquette Vendée Griffon is a typical French hunting dog that was bred in the west of the country in the Vendée department. Small dogs were needed mainly for hunting small game. The word “briquette” in the name of the breed is just an indication of the average size of its representatives. During World War II, the Vendée Briquette Griffon virtually disappeared. True fans of dogs restored the livestock, for this they used large Vendée griffons .

Today it is still not so easy to meet the Vendée Briquette Griffon – the breed is considered rare.

Smart and playful, the Briquette Vendée Griffon is famous for its character. This pet is human oriented. Affectionate with all family members, he especially highlights children. His patience is amazing: a pet can fiddle with kids for a long time, and watching this from the side is a real pleasure.

The Briquette Griffon’s sociability makes him not the best guardian of property. He is ready to make friends even with strangers! But you should not be afraid: at the moment of danger, the griffon will not let you down. These are brave and determined animals.

Behaviour

Like all dogs, he needs education . A bored pet often becomes uncontrollable and naughty. To prevent this, you need to start practicing with him at an early age.

The Briquette Vendée Griffon is a hunting breed, and these dogs always worked in a pack. So the Griffon has no problems with communication skills, he easily finds a common language with relatives. If you’re looking for a puppy in a home that already has a dog, a Griffon brick might be a good choice.

As for other animals, there may be problems. The same hunting nature and instincts of the Griffon are to blame for everything. Experts do not advise having such a pet in a family where a rabbit, ferret or rodent lives. However, of course, much depends on the upbringing of the dog.

Care

The Briquette Vendée Griffon is the owner of a thick coat, which consists of slightly curly hair. Dogs of this breed are not sheared, regular brushing and combing is enough . Every week, the pet should be combed out with a stiff brush. If the animal is involved in hunting or is in free range, it is necessary to inspect it after each walk, remove thorns, grass and dirt from the wool.

It is also important to monitor the condition of the ears , teeth and eyes of the pet, inspect and clean them in time.

Conditions of detention

The Vendée Briquette Griffon feels great in a city apartment if it gets enough exercise. Breeders recommend walking the dog, changing modes: switching from walking to running and vice versa, and letting the pet off the leash in the park or in the forest. The Vendée Briquette Griffon is incredibly hardy, so a potential owner should be prepared for this. You will have to play a lot.
