Breeding finches
Amadins are unpretentious pets that feel great in an apartment. If you dream of breeding, finches are an ideal choice, because with the right care, these birds are ready to lay eggs almost all year round. But what does proper care include? What conditions must be created for breeding finches at home?
1. Pair selection
First of all, it is necessary to form the “correct” pair. It is better to choose a male and a female of the same age, in addition, they must match each other in character. Sometimes birds, even if they are the same age and have excellent health, do not get along with each other and, accordingly, cannot produce offspring. If two birds live in the same cage for more than 2 weeks and at the same time constantly quarrel, fight or ignore each other, they better find new partners. Amadins, capable of creating a pair, usually find a common language during the first week.
In no case do not allow closely related finches to be bred!
2. Health
For successful breeding, the health of the finches must be strong. The slightest undermining of immunity, the molting period and various ailments are a good reason to postpone breeding.
3. Nest arrangement
For successful masonry, finches will need a nest. Install a nesting base (or nesting house) in a cage or aviary and provide the birds with building “material” for arranging it: peeled hay, blades of grass, twigs, etc. Lay them at the bottom of the cage, put a little in the nest. As soon as the finches equip the nest and lay the first egg, the remaining material must be immediately removed from the cage.
Do not give birds cotton wool, threads or fabric patches: birds can become entangled in them, seriously injure themselves, and small chicks can even suffocate.
4. Proper Diet
Nutritious food is a source of strength for the body, and the diet of finches, especially during the breeding period, must be complete and strictly balanced. Purchase high quality diets formulated specifically for this bird species. They contain all the useful substances necessary for finches.
5. Place of installation of the cage (aviary)
A cage (or aviary) with finches should be installed in a bright part of the room, away from sources of noise, household appliances, batteries and drafts. It is important that the cage is spacious and the finches can move freely in it.
6. Daylight hours
The optimal daylight hours for finches is 14 hours. If you want the birds to give birth, this factor is best observed.
7. No stress
Birds will not reproduce if they are stressed. Try to disturb the finches as little as possible, do not move the cage from place to place, do not clean more often than expected.
8. Perfect timing
Amadins can be carried all year round, but it is better to plan breeding for spring or the first half of summer. During these periods, there is more than enough light and heat. You can treat your pets with fresh herbs rich in vitamins. All this will contribute to breeding and help to avoid possible problems with offspring, associated, for example, with insufficient daylight hours.
