The parrot has a long beak: what to do?

What to do if the parrot has a strongly grown beak? Why is this happening and how to avoid the problem in the future? About this in our article.

With the help of its beak, the parrot not only eats, but also communicates, making characteristic sounds, and even moves, clinging to twigs, perches and cage bars.

The beak is the most important organ on the state of which the life of a bird depends. In the wild, serious diseases and injuries to the beak inevitably lead to death. In captivity, parrots, fortunately, have someone to take care of. However, if beak injuries are not so common in home keeping, then its regrowth is a fairly common problem. Many beginner lovers of parrots and other birds face it.

The excessive length of the beak indicates incorrect conditions for keeping the pet. Most often, the beak grows back due to the impossibility of grinding. For example, if there is no special mineral stone in the cage, if the feeding ration is incorrect and there is not enough hard food in it.

Another reason is the accelerated growth of the beak. This happens if the bird consumes too many minerals, i.e. if her diet is not balanced.

The excessively long beak of the budgerigar and other species makes it difficult to grab food, eat, drink, move and make sounds. If measures are not taken in a timely manner, the parrot will weaken, because a sufficient amount of energy will not enter its body.

Parrots, especially small ones, are very sensitive and vulnerable pets. Serious ailments, unfortunately, often lead to death. Therefore, their state of health must be carefully monitored and, in case of a problem, immediately contact an ornithologist.

The parrot has a long beak: what to do?

To prevent the beak from growing back, be sure to install a special mineral stone in the cage. It must be available to the bird exactly 24 hours a day.

Another necessary measure is a balanced diet. If the parrot eats properly and all the components in its diet are balanced, the beak will grind naturally and its growth rate will be optimal. Soft food, on the other hand, will lead to regrowth, because. the beak will not be able to grind on it. An unbalanced diet, in particular an increased content of minerals, will cause accelerated beak growth. Thus, even if there is a mineral stone in the cage, the parrot will not have time to grind it down.

This is why a quality balanced diet is so important.

The long beak of a parrot needs to be shortened, otherwise after some time the bird will lose the ability to eat. Some owners perform this procedure on their own, right at home. But if you care about the health of your pet, it is better to contact a veterinarian.

There are a lot of blood vessels in the beak, which are easy to miss and damage. Especially with dark colors. Hitting the vessels and shortening the beak too much, you risk causing irreparable harm. In addition, it is very difficult to make even cuts and process the edges on your own. What does it take to fix a bird!

Now imagine how the parrot itself will perceive the procedure. These sensitive pets are prone to stress, and beak processing will be a serious shock for them. Here is another reason to contact a specialist: he will do everything competently, confidently and quickly, without causing unnecessary discomfort to the parrot.

After the procedure, be sure to consult with a specialist about the conditions for keeping a parrot. Analyze what in your case led to the growth of the beak, and make the necessary adjustments to the care so that now your parrot is always in perfect order!
