Character

The Austrian Hound is a dog breed from Austria that is rarely seen outside of its homeland. She came, in all likelihood, from the Tyrolean Brakki, outwardly they are even somewhat similar. And those, in turn, are descendants of even more ancient dogs – the Celtic Braccos.

Be that as it may, the Austrian Brakk is an amazing breed. It differs from other hounds in color: according to the standard, the coat must be black with tan, white spots are not allowed.

But in terms of character and working qualities, the Austrian Brakk is a real hound. Light bones, medium height and excellent endurance make this dog indispensable for hunting in the mountains. She walks both on a large animal, and on a small one, and even on a game.

Sensitive and attentive Brakki easily find a common language with people. They are devoted to their family and their master, who is considered the leader of the pack. Representatives of the breed are quite loyal to children, they will obey a child of senior school age. Brandle Brakki treat other animals well, not all representatives of this breed strive for leadership, therefore they are often able to get along in the same house even with a cat.

Behaviour

As you might expect, Austrian hounds are very active dogs! Nothing brings Brundle Brak more pleasure than running kilometers, overcoming distances, playing sports together with the owner . That is why it is recommended to start such a dog for active people who are ready to spend a lot of time on the street and in nature.

Brundle Brakki are considered to be quite obedient and attentive. Therefore, the upbringing of a representative of this breed is a real pleasure for the owner. Despite the fact that puppies learn quickly, the dog needs to be exercised regularly, then there will definitely not be problems with its behavior.

It is worth noting that Brundle Bracca, although they seem aristocratic and gentle, easily adapts to temperature changes and to new surroundings. Especially if there is a beloved owner nearby.

Aaustrian hound Care

The short, smooth coat of the Austrian Hound does not require special care, even during the molting period. However, this does not mean that the dog does not need to be looked after. Lost hairs should be removed weekly with a comb or a damp towel, and during shedding, the procedure should be carried out more often – at least a couple of times a week.

Conditions of detention

It is easy to guess that the Austrian hound is not a dog for the city. She needs a lot of space to exercise. Therefore, a private house with a large yard and the opportunity to go to a park or forest is a necessity, not a whim.

It is interesting that in their homeland these dogs are rarely companions even now. The owners of the breed – most often hunters – maintain the working qualities of their pets and improve them.
