Firstly, the birthplace of the Yorkie, like many other terriers, is Great Britain. And everyone knows about the British attitude to hunting. From the 13th century to the present day, various paintings and images, as well as stories, have been preserved that well describe the hunting skills of the English.

In the hunt for burrowing animals such as foxes and badgers, Yorkshire terriers played a very important role. If an animal was hiding in its hole, the Yorkshire Terrier was required to drive it out of the hole. And this requires not only strength, but also certain skills. In this situation, the Yorks had to act independently, being one on one with the enemy. Such work requires a lot of courage, endurance, strength, ingenuity and stamina. And all these qualities are possessed by Yorkshire terriers.

Second, Yorkies decorative dog breed. They feel very comfortable in such an environment, when they are given signs of attention in every possible way, for example, all sorts of dog shows. They pose with pleasure and willingly agree to carry out all the commands of the owner. With their skills, good ingenuity and cheerful character, they very easily become everyone’s favorites. But it is worth remembering that in order to achieve your predisposition, they begin to be harmful, feeling entitled to manage the situation.

Yorkie Care

Since the Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed, it is not difficult to keep him both in a large house and in an apartment. Thanks to a lively mind and character, it is possible to accustom York to the “cat tray”, but be sure to walk it. Walking has a good effect on the motor activity of the Yorkie, and he also perceives all kinds of exposure to light very well. You can walk on a leash so that your baby is not lost in the crowd. In winter, you can also use a portable bag, as Yorkies are quite small animals.

Grooming is the most painstaking job of caring for Yorkshire Terriers. The coat of dogs that participate in exhibitions is not cut and is constantly washed with shampoos, conditioners and hair balms to make it easier to comb. To prevent your pet’s hair from getting tangled, special curlers are twisted around the hair and a jumpsuit is put on over the curlers. But if your dog does not participate in dog shows and shows, then it must be cut every 2-3 months, otherwise you simply cannot cope with caring for your pet’s coat.

Yorkie dental care is also of great importance. Brush your pet’s teeth regularly to prevent plaque, and you can also give chewable “bones” to prevent tartar formation. After all, we all know that the formation of plaque and tartar leads to tooth loss in dogs. Yorkshire Terriers are the most prone to dental disease. Tartar, caries, periodontitis are the most common diseases in Yorkshire Terriers. If you do not observe the necessary hygiene of the dog, then you can encounter these diseases by the age of two years.

Where is the best place to buy?

Since the Yorkshire Terrier costs a lot of money, it is worth thinking about ways to acquire it. Yorkshire Terrier can be purchased:

  • At the “bird market” or from the hands – these options are not recommended if you want to purchase a healthy, vaccinated and purebred Yorkie. Since, no one in the “bird market” can give you a guarantee for this.
  • From nurseries that specifically breed Yorkshires. Firstly, they can give certain guarantees, and secondly, they can advise you on the care of Yorkies.

If you are acquiring a Yorkie simply as a pet, then it is enough that learn about his heritage. Even if it is a hybrid, then with a smart and devoted character, he will be loved by your family.
