XNUMX weird cat habits you need to know about

Each owner observed the habits and habits of cats, which often seem strange. Everyone is familiar with their daily rituals like trampling soft surfaces with their paws, but what about rare oddities?

1. Jumping up and down at the sight of a cucumber

Recently, videos of cats jumping up and down at the sight of cucumbers have become popular. Experts suggest that cucumbers and similarly shaped objects may be so frightening to pets because animals perceive them as snake-like predators. They have survival instincts, so it is especially unpleasant for cats if a predator invades their personal space, for example, where a bowl of food is located.

But as National Geographic points out, “A deliberate attempt to surprise a cat can result in injury, breakage, or prolonged stress. Therefore, it is better to gradually introduce her to any new subjects. Signs of stress in cats include constant attempts to hide, aggression, increased heart rate, and excessive licking.

If you want to play a game of “surprise” with your furry friend, it’s best to avoid stress. Instead, arrange for a safe introduction of the cat to the cucumber. When she gets comfortable with this vegetable, she will be able to demonstrate her impressive farming or hunting skills.

2. Sitting in a square on the floor

It’s no secret that cats love to sit in boxes. Hiding in cramped places is a common thing for them. In another sensational video experiment circulating online, cats sit in squares marked on the floor with tape. These videos became so popular that they received the hashtag #CatSquare.

Cats, like many animals, have a nesting instinct. Owners can watch this when their kitty burrows under the covers. A small space hidden from prying eyes ensures its safety from predators. An ordinary box gives the cat comfort, and this instinct is so strong that even a square outlined on the floor without a box is enough.

“The box may not have any walls at all, that is, it can simply be a symbol of the box, say, a square outlined on the floor,” explains cat expert Nicholas Dodman in the PBS NewsHour’s “Talk” section. “This virtual box is not as good as the real one, but at least it gives the feeling of having one — that is, that there could be a real square box in which to hide in.”

This weirdness of a cat is nothing more than her attempt to feel safe, and the owner can give a furry friend a sense of security in the form of a real box. Durable cardboard is an indispensable and very cheap item on the list of cat equipment.

3. Pushing objects off flat surfaces

Cats love to knock things over, and owners have plenty of evidence of this from their own experience and from videos that have flooded the internet.

But this feline quirk, in addition to being definitely weird, can also create real problems. So the cat is trying to get attention. When she pushes a cup of coffee off the table, the first reaction of a person – which is usually manifested by a loud cry and waving his arms – makes the cat very happy, because it seems to her that it is time for games.

Cats are very smart creatures. Therefore, the kitty knows that the next time she wants the owner to stop working and start stroking her, she just needs to tip things over – and this is a win-win option.

Scientists are not sure why cats exhibit such strange behavior, but they do not rule out that the cat is just having fun in this way. She does this for the sake of the game, and not at all in order to ruin the owner’s day. In this case, the cat realizes its strong hunting instinct, which can be observed when it chases toys.

Amy Shojai, a certified animal behaviorist, told PetMD that this is also a way for a pet to test its surroundings: “. If so, then the furry prankster just wants to make sure the cell phone isn’t an intruder that needs to be taken down.

Whatever your pet’s favorite quirk, it’s important to remember that cats in general often exhibit unusual behavior. If the furry beauty shows signs of illness or injury, you should immediately contact your veterinarian, but if she is just fooling around, you should enjoy her antics and feel free to join in!
