Wounds in guinea pigs

The causes of damage to the skin in guinea pigs are many – it can be injuries, and the consequences of various diseases. In any case, wounds must be handled with care and the health of the gilt must be assessed.

Algorithm of actions when a wound is found in a guinea pig:

1. Around the wound it is necessary to cut the hair, clean the wound from dirt and wool

2. Secondly, wash the wound with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or a 1:1000 potassium permanganate solution. Miramistin and other drugs of this group have proven themselves well.

3. Lubricate the wound with Vishnevsky ointment or any other disinfectant ointment (streptocidal, synthomycin, prednisolone).

4. Apply a light bandage.

The wound is treated daily.

On the third or fourth day, the wound can be sprinkled with streptocide or a complex powder (xeroform, streptocide and boric acid in equal proportions).
