What food for roosters to choose

Detailed instructions from the candidate of veterinary sciences Alexander Kuznetsov.

To choose a food that your fish will eat with appetite and after which they will look good and pollute the water less, consider three factors:

  • the natural habits of the fish, that is, what exactly the fish prefer as food;

  • anatomical features: the size and shape of the mouth, the size of the body of the fish;

  • the area where the fish forage: the surface of the water, the upper or middle layer, the bottom.

In relation to betta fish, all these factors are important. First of all, bettas are carnivorous and need a lot of protein food. They also have rather small mouths. To make it comfortable for them to eat, the feed particles should be small.

Cockerels feed mainly in the upper layers of the water and do not like to sink to the bottom for food. This means that it is better for them to choose floating food.

Useful food for males meets safety requirements: it does not contain toxins and pathogens of dangerous diseases. To cover the nutritional needs of fish, betta food must be complete.

And another important factor is the effect of food on the color of the fish. Cockerels are loved for their bright colors and lush fins. Therefore, to maintain and enhance the color, the food must contain carotenoid pigments.

Summing up, I recommend giving preference to special feeds specifically for betta fish. They fully comply with safety requirements, are suitable as a main food and contain carotenoids to maintain color. If you feed your fish this way, you won’t have to worry that they won’t get enough nutrients and this will show up in their bright colors.

An excellent option than to feed a betta is the specially designed Tetra Betta food:

  • Flake shape. The flake food floats on the surface of the water and attracts the attention of males.

  • Small size. Cockerels and other small fish easily eat flakes.

  • Contains carotenoids and protein. So that the fish eat up, and their color remains bright.

  • Safety. The feed does not contain hazardous ingredients and, thanks to its high digestibility, allows you to maintain water quality for longer. This is especially important for bettas, as they are often kept in very small aquariums where the water quickly deteriorates.

Feed portions are determined individually. Focus on the amount of food that the fish can eat in about 5 minutes. To do this, pour a small amount and observe. After 5 minutes, the remaining food must be carefully collected with a net or siphon.

Depending on the activity of the fish, I recommend 1-2 feedings per day.

To treat your betta fish to something special with health benefits, I recommend trying Betta Larva Sticks. It imitates aquatic invertebrates – the natural food of bettas. The shape and smell of the delicacy attract the attention of the fish, and you can watch how the cockerel “hunts”.

Finally, I will share my personal observation. Like other pets, fish love attention. They recognize the one who feeds them. Seeing a familiar silhouette, they swim up to the glass and flicker, hoping to get a treat. So spoil your pets for health, but do not forget to choose the right food and follow the feeding rate.
