Character
According to one theory, the ancestors of the modern Pembroke Welsh Corgi came to Wales along with the Vikings and Flemish conquerors back in 1107. Even then, small dogs grazed herds of cows, horses, sheep, and even protected the barnyard. Corgis are considered one of the most ancient shepherd dogs, this is the first breed recognized in this group.
By the beginning of the 20th century, two types of Corgi had formed – the Pembroke and the Cardigan. They were first officially presented at the London Dog Show in 1925. It is interesting that the judges gave preference to the Pembroke type, at the same time the club of lovers of these dogs was founded. And the corgi cardigan club appeared only a year later. Pembrokes differ from their “brother” in the shape of their ears (they are smaller), a shorter body and straight legs. Well, their character is more cocky.
Perhaps the most famous connoisseur of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed is Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Still would! These charming dogs are able to fall in love with themselves at first sight.
Behaviour
Smart and funny pets today are more likely to act as companions, although they are also used as service dogs. Such pets are suitable for both single people and families with children. Good-natured animals have earned a reputation as good nannies, but with a caveat: sometimes they do not mind demonstrating their dominant position to their little master.
Behind the pretty appearance of the Corgi lies a real tomboy. The following situation often occurs: a prankster puppy is not scolded for his tricks, and he grows up as a spoiled bully.
To prevent this from happening, the pet must be educated , and not be led by him. Moreover, dogs of this breed are well trained and grasp information on the fly. By the way, corgis show themselves well at agility competitions , for the owner it will also be a pleasure.
Pembroke Corgis are distrustful of strangers, but they do not show aggression. Bitterness is a disqualifying quality of the breed.
Welsh Corgi Pembroke Care
The thick coat of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi will require careful care from the owner if he does not want to find hairs all over the apartment. Pets should be brushed with a stiff brush or furminator every 2-3 days.
Bathe animals as needed. But in rainy weather, you will have to do this more often, as short dogs quickly get dirty in the mud.
Conditions of detention
Pembroke Welsh Corgis get along well in a city apartment due to their compact size. True, they need quite active walks 2-3 times a day. It is important to play and run with your pet, entertain him with fetching and offer various exercises so that he does not get bored.
