Veterinary pet kit

The environment is unpredictable. A pet can get an accidental injury even within the apartment, not to mention walks on the street and field trips. So that in a difficult moment you can help him, a well-stocked first-aid kit should always be at hand. What to put in it?

What should be in the first aid kit of a dog, cat and other pets?

We list the main items that should be included in a veterinary first aid kit.

  • First aid equipment.

– special sterile bandages, bandages (for example, Andover), wipes,

– disinfectants without alcohol,

– wound healing ointments.

  • Sorbents – for quick help with indigestion or food allergies.
  • Sedative. A safe pet product based on natural ingredients, recommended by a veterinarian. Helps in stressful situations. A must for suspicious animals.
  • Thermometer.
  • Means for cleaning eyes and ears. Be sure to stock up on a special hygienic lotion for regular cleaning. If your pet is prone to otitis or his eyes often become inflamed, supplement the first aid kit with anti-inflammatory drugs. Depending on the diagnosis, they will be prescribed by a veterinarian.

  • Flea medication. Fleas are the most common external parasites of dogs and cats. They are active all year round and breed very quickly. Often the owner notices fleas in a pet already when there are a lot of them. In order not to waste time searching for a drug, it is better to play it safe and prepare for a possible situation in advance. Purchase an antiparasitic that is appropriate for the type, age, and weight of your pet.
  • Tick medicine. Ticks are potential carriers of the most dangerous infections, many of which are fatal. Your pet must be protected from them at any time when the outside temperature is above +5 °C. The drug against ticks should always be in the first aid kit. Especially if you are planning trips with your pet to nature or to the country!
  • Pliers. If you can’t protect your pet from ticks, you will have to remove the parasite yourself (or contact a veterinarian). In this case, supplement the first-aid kit with a special pliers. You can buy it in a veterinary pharmacy.

Why a plier? Parasites are strictly not recommended to be removed with fingers or other improvised objects. By squeezing the body of the tick, you force it to splash out the drunk blood into the bite site, and with it the pathogens. Thus, the likelihood of infection increases. But a special tool allows you to firmly grab the tick as close to the head as possible and does not put pressure on it.

  • Contacts of the nearest veterinary clinics (including round-the-clock ones) and veterinarians, who can be consulted at any time.
  • Ideally, you will need several veterinary first aid kits. One will always be in your home, the other in the car, and the third can be left in the country.

Please note that this is a basic first aid kit. Depending on the individual characteristics of your ward and his state of health, you can supplement it. Discuss this with your pet’s veterinarian!
