Treats for guinea pigs

Sometimes, as a delicacy, guinea pigs can be given juicy fruits, but very little. It is best to use apples, pears, strawberries, grapes and tomatoes.

Apples suitable for feeding in raw and dried form. The chemical composition of apples is extremely diverse. The fruits contain up to 16% sugars (fructose predominates), fiber, a lot of pectin, up to 1% malic, citric and other acids (including up to 40 mg% ascorbic acid), up to 0,3% tannins, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, E, PP, P, K, carotene, salts of iron, manganese, potassium, sodium, calcium. The aroma of fruits is due to essential oils. 

Sweet varieties of apples are a favorite treat for guinea pigs. Dried apples can be soaked in water for 2-4 hours before feeding and lightly boiled. Feed small immature fruits, but they must be given little by little so that there is no upset. 

The content of nutrients and vitamins in unripe apple fruits is much less than in fully ripe ones. Do not feed rodents apples with traces of rot, crumpled or soiled with earth. If the affected areas of the fetus are small, then it is better to cut them off, and wash the fetus thoroughly, after which it can be used for feeding. 

Strawberries or strawberries is a popular fruit plant. The berries are red, fragrant, sour-sweet, in different varieties of different shapes and sizes. The largest ones reach 5 cm in diameter. The berries contain up to 15% sugars, represented mainly by fructose and glucose, about 1% acids (citric, malic, etc.), pectin, up to 100 mg of vitamin C, as well as vitamins B and E, carotene (provitamin A) , salts of iron, phosphorus, calcium, manganese, cobalt. 

Strawberries improve appetite and have a beneficial effect on digestion, have diaphoretic and diuretic properties, and normalize salt metabolism.
