Training a bird to fly outside a cage

So, you have acquired a feathered pet. Before you start letting it fly around your apartment, learn certain rules that you need to follow.

Flying parrots at home

The very first thing to remember when you bring it home is that in no case should you immediately let the bird fly around the room where it will live. On the contrary, moving a bird from one place to another is a big stress for her. Therefore, it is necessary to create the most comfortable conditions for its adaptation in a new area. To do this, it is necessary not to let the feathered out of the cage for approximately 30 – 45 days, to provide rational nutrition and rest. During this time, you must make friends with the bird, create complete trust and understanding between you.

Where to start learning?

How can this be achieved? Before you start training a bird, you need to accustom it to the species of the owner, that is, to your species. The parrot should not be afraid of you. To do this, you first need to stand next to the cage for a longer time so that your pet gets used to you. At the same time, do not make noise, do not shout, do not make any sudden movements in front of him. When you clean the cage daily or bring food, always refer to the bird by name so that it remembers it. When the bird gets used to you, and you understand this, if you see that the pet eats calmly with you, then you can begin to accustom it to the sight of your hand. First, enter your hand into the cage for a short time, literally for 3-4 minutes, without moving it. Gradually, the time spent by the hand in the cage can be increased.

At first, the feathered one will react very violently: it will rush around the cage, get nervous, and be afraid. But over time, the manifestations of fear will pass. As soon as this happens, move on to planting the bird on a small stick that looks like a perch. Gently move the stick to the bird’s paws, as if resting on them, letting it know that you want it to switch to it. Exercise every day, each time increasing the duration of classes. As soon as the result is achieved, start making the stick shorter, thereby encouraging the bird to move to your hand.

Of course, the most important thing in taming a bird is patience.. When the bird jumps into your hand with great desire and joy, start teaching it to eat from your hand. Perhaps it will happen much faster than you expect. In order for this exercise to go smoothly, you need to, after watching the feathered pet, understand what kind of food is his favorite. First, you can give the bird to eat this grain from a spoon, and then from your hand, without putting this grain into the feeder. Thanks to this exercise, pretty soon the bird will calmly eat any offered food from your hand.

Learning to fly

Now let’s look at how and when the bird needs to be released from the cage for free flight. Remember that the minimum for this exercise is 15 minutes, the maximum is unlimited. However, before you get to that, you need to teach the bird to fly into the cage. Go to this exercise when the feathered one is already sitting quietly on your finger, so this activity will be more productive. Take your pet in your hands so that the wings are folded, stop your hand at a distance of about 10-15 cm from the entrance to the cage and release the bird. She must fly into the cell. Gradually increase the distance to the cage and the bird will definitely learn to fly into it.

Before the flight, it is advisable to prepare the room where you plan to release it: close the curtains on the windows, cover the mirrors – this will help to avoid injury, especially during the first flights. Never feed a bird outside the cage, then it will always strive back. If, nevertheless, there are difficulties with the return of the feathered bird to the cage, you can turn off the light in the room, and turn on the lamp next to the cage. The sight of the birds is not very good, therefore, striving for the light, sooner or later it will fly into its house anyway. If this does not help, then you just have to catch the feathered one and put it in a cage yourself. But don’t worry, it will all work out soon.

It is not so difficult to tame a bird, the main thing is your sincere desire and patience. But then it will become even more interesting – after all, a tame bird learns speech much better. Take care of yourself and your pets.
