Timid dogs expect bad things from the world, they are constantly on the lookout for “dangers” and “enemies” and are always ready to run and hide. But the most difficult thing about dealing with a timid dog is that its reactions are often unpredictable. Even the owner cannot always foresee when and what a timid pet will be afraid of. Moreover, the reaction to fear can be both flight and stupor, and the manifestation of aggression.

Where do timid dogs come from? A dog of any size, breed, sex and age can be shy. This behavior may be due to genetic factors, negative experiences or lack of socialization.

Alas, it is extremely difficult to correct the genetic predisposition and lack of socialization. Such a dog will remain timid forever, you can only slightly smooth out the manifestations of fearfulness and thus build the life of the dog so that it encounters frightening objects as little as possible.

If initially there were no behavioral problems, and the dog’s shyness was formed as a result of negative experiences, for example, rough treatment or injury, there is a chance to correct the situation to one degree or another.

The problem of shyness in dogs is not solved by training. It is necessary to develop a program of correction aimed at increasing the dog’s self-confidence and creating a predictable environment that provides the animal with a sense of control over the situation. A timid dog requires a calm, even demeanor from the owner without any rudeness and rigidity, as well as the creation of living conditions that will allow him to feel safe.
