Previously, it was erroneously believed that under the trade name “Star Moss” Tortula rural (Tortula ruralis) was supplied. This species of moss is not actually used in aquariums, but its name is still used interchangeably.

Hyophila folded is a grassy moss with vertical shoots. The leaves are arranged spirally around the stem, ending at its crown. In the air, the leaves are tightly twisted up to one millimeter in width, and under water they straighten out to their entire shape, increasing three times (up to 3.5 mm). Propagated by the formation of a brown arrow on top of which is a capsule with spores.

It grows only on rough surfaces, attaching to them with rhizoids, it is impossible to plant them in the ground! During the initial placement, the moss will need to be temporarily secured with fishing line or special plant glue. Growth is slow even in comfortable conditions. It is necessary to provide soft water and a sufficient level of lighting. The lack of light leads to the disintegration of the sprout into separate fragments.
