Sphynx food

The nature of these cats makes them real experimenters – including in food. Sphynxes are very curious and can take for delicacies unusual products for a cat tribe: fruits, berries, seaweed, chocolate. They encroach on household chemicals, house plants and Christmas decorations. Therefore, the main rule when feeding Donchians and Canadians is a special attitude to the safety of the pet and caring for it.

Below is about how to feed the Sphynx so that it is healthy and cheerful.

General recommendations

The basic rules for catering for Sphynxes are the same as for other breeds:

  • Taboo on food from the common table. Smoked, fried, salty and sweet are prohibited.
  • It is advisable not to use economy class feed. They have an extremely low percentage of meat, and the main source of protein is corn or soy. Plus flavor enhancers and other harmful additives
  • Attention to composition. Dry or wet food: whatever you choose, it is important to maintain the optimal balance of nutrients, trace elements, vitamins and essential fatty acids for the breed.

Features of food

Sphynxes have an excellent appetite: an accelerated metabolism is one of the features of the breed. Cats swallow food in pieces, almost without chewing. Add to the above facts a sensitive gastrointestinal tract, a tendency to dermatitis and dysbacteriosis – and you get a set of specific signs that should be taken into account when forming a diet.

Dry food

One of the best ways to feed the Don and Canadian Sphynx. With this choice, pay special attention to the drinking regimen of the cat. Fresh water should always be freely available to the animal.

The pet should drink three times the volume of the daily serving of dry food. For example, 50 ml of liquid is required for 150 grams of feed. If you notice that your cat is not drinking much, a wet commercial food may be suitable for her.

Sphynx expend a lot of energy – more than cats of other breeds. They are very playful, active, groovy. In addition, increased calorie content is necessary for hairless pets to keep warm. A cat should not starve, but an excess of calories is also harmful: the appetite and amount of food consumed by sphinxes are under the constant control of caring owners.
