Description

Adult individuals reach a length of up to 18 cm. Catfish has a flattened body with a large sloping head, wide pectoral and ventral fins resembling miniature wings. The fins are oriented and positioned in such a way as to help the fish attach tightly to the surface of the rocks, thereby resisting the current.

The color is gray, light brownish, sandy in color. The shades change depending on the area and repeat the color features of the substrates where the catfish have to live.

The main feature of the species is the presence of a very long process on the tail, resembling a long thread, a whip.

Maintenance and care, arrangement of the aquarium

The optimal size of the aquarium for 2-3 catfish starts from 200 liters. In design, if possible, should resemble the bottom of a mountain river. The main elements of the decor will be boulders, coarse sand, pebbles, large snags. The presence of aquatic plants is not required. If desired, you can use species that can grow on the surface of stones and snags.

For long-term keeping, it is important to provide clean running water rich in oxygen and at a temperature not exceeding 22°C. Equally important is the presence of an internal flow. A productive filter, equipped with an additional aeration system, is able to cope with these tasks.

Maintenance is standard and includes weekly replacement of part of the water with fresh water, removal of accumulated organic waste, equipment maintenance.

Food

The basis of the diet will be live or frozen food. In some cases, they can be accustomed to dry products, which should be checked with the fish supplier.

Behavior and Compatibility

Catfish Sisor is a peaceful calm fish. However, given the need for relatively cool water and moderate to strong current, the choice of compatible species becomes limited. As neighbors in the aquarium, you can consider some types of golts, for example, Gastromizons, as well as Barilius Dogaring.
