Siberian kittens: choice and care

Before the moment a little Siberian kitten appears in your home, study the habits and characteristics of the breed, which were influenced by the harsh nature of the Trans-Urals, which created these brave hunters with amazing flair. Knowing what to prepare for with the advent of a new tenant, you will more easily find a common language with him.

Who is suitable for the breed

A character trait that will certainly manifest itself with age is the amazing sense of dignity of the Siberian, his proud independence. Adults rarely seek affection and decide for themselves when they are ready to accept scratching and stroking from the owner.

If there is not enough free time to communicate with a pet, then a Siberian cat will suit you perfectly. She will not expect increased attention, but will manage her own company surrounded by toys. The main thing is to find time for walks in the fresh air, so that the Siberian can show his natural activity.

How to choose a kitten and where is the best place to buy it

Before buying, decide whether you need a kitten for the soul or to participate in exhibitions. If the animal is a pet, then you can take a kitten and not from titled parents. In the second case, carefully study the pedigree. But you should only contact a cattery or trusted breeders to buy a cat. Then you will get a healthy purebred animal, and not a mestizo of mixed blood.

When buying, pay attention to the appearance and mood of the kitten. It should be active, the coat and eyes should shine, and there should be no discharge on the nose and ears. If the baby is passive, and the eyes are watery, this is the first sign that the kitten is unwell.

When choosing a kitten, pay attention to the one who reacts positively to you. Try to pick him up, stroke him and establish an emotional connection.

How to distinguish a Siberian kitten from an ordinary outbred

A small kitten at the age of two months already meets the breed standards. Therefore, it will not be difficult for you to distinguish a thoroughbred Siberian kitten from an ordinary one. Even in childhood, Siberian cats look strong, large individuals. They have a powerful body with a voluminous chest and a short neck, strong legs. And between the fingers grow tufts of wool.

The muzzle of the animal has a smooth outline of a trapezoid shape. Cheekbones in small kittens may be underdeveloped, but this will change with age. The ears of adults are widely spaced and look slightly forward. They are wide at the base and rounded at the tips. Kittens’ ears can be set closer together.

The eyes are oval and set wide apart. The tail is of medium length: wide at the base, and tapering towards the tip and somewhat reminiscent of a raccoon’s tail. The fur coat of kittens is soft and silky, but with age it will become rougher.

The color of the animal can be monophonic or tortoiseshell. There are both red Siberian kittens and black Siberian kittens.

How to care for a Siberian kitten

Siberians are clean, quickly get used to the toilet, which means that the main care is to comb the wool. It is enough to carry out this procedure once a week, and during molting – up to three times a week. It is recommended to bathe the animal after long country trips, but do it carefully: not all individuals like water. Bathing cats is recommended only with specialized products for animals. From time to time, you can hygienically clean your ears with a cotton swab, and a scratching post is useful for claws. Siberian cats are not picky when it comes to food. You can make a diet from natural products or choose food according to the age, sex and activity of your pet.

Name ideas for this breed

Choosing a name is a crucial moment for the owner of the animal. The nickname can reflect the character and appearance of the pet. But the main thing is that the cat must respond to its name. Siberians are often called names that are pleasant to the Russian ear – Styopa, Musya, Mityai, Umka or Barsik. Since Siberian kittens look like fluffy balls, homely, cozy nicknames suit them perfectly.

You can connect the kitten itself to the selection process. Call him by different names and stop at the one to which the animal will respond.
