Character
Although the Rough Collie is often referred to as the Scottish Collie, historians have not been able to reliably find out where the puppies of this breed were brought to Scotland. It is known that Queen Victoria played a role in the growth of the collie’s popularity, visiting Scotland and returning home with several puppies. In England, collies quickly spread due to their outstanding mental abilities.
Thanks to this quality, collies have become heroes of films more than once (for example, “Lassi”), and also took part in hostilities as mine detectors and saboteurs.
This charismatic breed has become a real symbol of friendship between a dog and a man.
Collies are quite mobile, so they need to provide optimal exercise. At the same time, they are not hyperactive and will not riot in the house. These dogs are inquisitive and will make great companions on nature trips, jogging or cycling. Collies love the water and enjoy swimming.
They are patient and great with children. Moreover, the dog for the child will become not only a playmate, but also a reliable defender.
Dogs are wary of strangers, but not aggressive. Like any shepherd dog, they will become good watchmen of the owner’s territory. They get along well with cats and other animals.
Care
The luxurious Collie coat requires regular grooming , but you should follow the measure and do not remove the undercoat unnecessarily. Rough collie owners need to have several combs, a metal and natural brush, and a slicker brush.
Collie claws are trimmed no more than once a month (if necessary) with a nail cutter.
Eyes and ears should be periodically inspected and wiped with a damp cotton swab as they get dirty. To cleanse the eyes, you can use the usual weak tea leaves.
After walking, it is advisable to inspect the paw pads, rinse with water and wipe with a damp towel.
Conditions of detention
Rough collies are equally well adapted to the content in a private house and in an apartment. The only thing that can cause difficulties is a strong seasonal molt.
However, it is important to understand that Rough Collies are very attached to their owners. They are not prone to running away from home and are very bored in solitude. In no case should you put this sociable and contact pet on a chain.
