Rotala mini «Type №2»

Rotala mini “Type No. 2”, English trade name Rotala macrandra “Mini Type 2”. It is a selection form of the classic Rotala Macrandra. It differs from its predecessor in very small leaves, the miniature size of which is preserved regardless of the growth conditions – both under water in an aquarium and in the air.

The prefix to the name “Type No. 2” indicates the existence of other varieties of the same type. For example, “Type No. 4” can also be attributed to the number of popular ones.

However, the growing environment affects the shape and color of the leaf blades. The leaves may become round-ovate or oblong-ovate with a higher middle and upward-facing leaf margins. In the air, the leaves are green thickened. Under water, they acquire reddish hues, provided that the plant receives enough nutrients and light. Otherwise, the green color begins to predominate.

Keeping Rotala mini “Type No. 2” requires a certain amount of experience from the aquarist. Nutrient soil and light level are of key importance. With a lack of light, the leaves begin to fade, and then die. This can happen if the planting is too dense (requires regular habitation) and/or shaded by other plants. Rotala is recommended to be placed directly under the light source.
