Puppy refuses to eat when moving house
Moving to a new home is the most important event in a puppy’s life, accompanied by severe stress and often, as a result, refusal of food. The baby is torn away from his mother and other puppies, taken away from the familiar environment and brought to a new world filled with unfamiliar smells. Very soon the baby will get used to it – and so his happy life in the circle of a real family will begin. But how to help him survive the first major stress associated with the move?
The first days of a puppy’s stay in a new home should be as calm as possible. No matter how much you want to quickly share your joy with relatives and friends, it is better to postpone the reception of guests for at least a week. Once in a new environment, the puppy will be afraid of everything around him, because he is surrounded by so many unfamiliar objects and smells. He has yet to get used to you and other family members, to his place, and if strangers and other animals appear in the house, this will only increase stress and anxiety.
Many puppies experience the move so hard that they even refuse to eat. Perhaps this is one of the most serious consequences of severe stress, because. The puppy’s body is constantly growing and for normal development, he simply needs a balanced nutritious diet. How to deal with the problem?
Every responsible dog breeder knows that at first the puppy should be fed the same food that the breeder gave him. And even if the choice of a breeder seems not the most successful for you, it is recommended to gradually transfer your pet to a new diet. Remember that even for an adult healthy dog, switching to a new food is a serious shake-up. But if we are talking about a puppy that is already in a serious stressful situation, then a sharp change in diet will only complicate the situation, provoking serious digestive disorders and weakening the body.
But sometimes, for some reason, the owner does not have the opportunity to give the puppy the usual food. Or, alternatively, a moving-worried puppy may ignore their previously favorite diet. Without proper nutrition, the body weakens and becomes more vulnerable to various irritants and diseases, it is more difficult to endure stress. And then our main task is to restore the pet’s appetite and strengthen the immune system so that the baby develops properly, gains strength and easily adapts to the new environment.
This task is effectively handled by prebiotic drinks for dogs (for example, Viyo), designed specifically to strengthen immunity and normalize the digestive tract. Along with the inclusion of vitamins and essential amino acids in the composition of the complex, a feature of the prebiotic drink is also its high palatability, i.e. puppies enjoy drinking it themselves. This allows the drink to be used to increase the palatability of the daily feed. You just sprinkle the food with a drink – and the puppy, attracted by the pleasant aroma, devours his now doubly healthy dinner with appetite. Thus, we not only solve the problem with appetite and normalize the functioning of the digestive system, but also saturate the growing body of the baby with the microelements and nutrients it needs.
Until recently, prebiotic drinks were used in therapeutic practice to strengthen human immunity, but today they are increasingly being talked about in the field of veterinary medicine. It’s great that the pet industry keeps up with the times and the health of our four-legged pets is becoming more and more protected!
