The age of the breed, as well as its origin, is not easy to establish. Experts believe that these dogs descended from a group of mastiffs, who also developed kuvasu, Maremmo-Abruzzo and a large Pyrenean Shepherd.
The Polish Podgalian Sheepdog does not look like a typical sheepdog. She does not have long shaggy hair; her appearance is more like retriever. Nevertheless, it is a talented shepherd and a pleasant companion for families with children or for a single person.

Representatives of the breed protect the members of their “pack” and are ready to protect them at any moment – these dogs have guarding instincts in their blood.
This shepherd dog does not trust strangers and treats with caution until he gets to know the guest better and realizes that he is not dangerous. However, representatives of the breed usually do not show aggression, this is a disqualifying vice.
At home, the Polish Podgalian Sheepdog is a calm pet. For a dog to be obedient, exercise is needed, and the more, the better.
Concerning training, then here the Tatra Shepherd Dog shows independence. Animals are used to making decisions without the command of the owner, so one should not expect unconditional obedience from them. However, they learn quickly and absorb information easily. All that is required from the owner is to be patient and find an approach to your pet. It may take time and some effort, but the result will be worth it.
