Pogostemon erectus
Pogostemon erectus, scientific name Pogostemon erectus. Despite the fact that this plant is native to the southeastern part of the Indian subcontinent (India), it was first used in aquariums in the USA. Then it was exported to Europe and only then returned to Asia again in the status of a popular aquarium plant.
Appearance depends on growth conditions. The plant forms compact bushes from stems 15–40 cm high. In the air, Pogostemon erectus forms short narrow and pointed leaves resembling spruce needles. In favorable conditions, inflorescences appear in the form of spikelets with numerous tiny purple flowers. Under water in aquariums, the leaves become longer and thinner, making the bushes look more dense. It looks most impressive when planted in groups, rather than a single sprout.
In aquariums, it is important to provide a high level of lighting for healthy growth. It is unacceptable to place next to tall and floating plants. An additional introduction of carbon dioxide is recommended. In large tanks it can be located in the central part, in small volumes it is worth using as a background or corner plant.
