Play tunnel for cats

Cats are predators, and in the conditions of an apartment they behave in exactly the same way as their wild ancestors: they hide in ambush, guard the victim for a long time and like to suddenly pounce on her. A sofa, a bed, an armchair, and any box – anything can serve as a shelter. The cat play tunnel is more advanced, but makes sense same.

This is a great toy for both small kittens and adult cats – as a rule, all pets like this design. There are two types of tunnels: vertical and horizontal.

Horizontal tunnels

In turn, they also come in different types. For example, the simplest horizontal tunnels look like pipes, while more complex options are multi-level structures with multiple entrances. The choice depends on the personal preferences of the owner and the availability of free space in the apartment. There are even more complex tunnels that you can model yourself: parts of the structure are detached and attached to each other.

This type of tunnel is an excellent solution for small apartments, as the vertical tunnel takes up little space. Inside it there are shelves along which the cat climbs up – to the house. Such a design can be installed next to a closet or a shelf specially nailed – this will definitely appeal to a pet who likes to watch what is happening in the house from above.

How to choose a tunnel for a cat?

When choosing a game design, pay attention to the material of the product, its cost and quality. It is better that the cat tunnel is made of soft material and is pleasant to the touch. The low cost of construction is a reason to think, because cheap models are often made from low-quality materials and are unlikely to last long. Also, be sure to take a closer look at the tunnel itself: no details, threads, pieces of fabric, etc., should stick out of it. If you have not found a suitable tunnel for a cat, do not be discouraged: you can make it yourself.

Do-it-yourself cat tunnel

First you need to decide which tunnel you want. For installation in a small space, a vertical model is well suited; if there is a lot of space, you can consider the option of a horizontal design with several compartments.

A children’s toy basket can serve as the simplest design and basis for a horizontal tunnel. The principle of its device is similar to a tunnel: a fabric is attached to a wide spiral, which is held due to the rigidity of the rings. It is enough to make a through hole in such a basket, and the tunnel is ready.

More complex design options can be made from more rigid materials: chipboard or plastic pipes. They are also suitable for creating vertical tunnels – a simple soft fabric is not suitable in this case.

A tunnel made of plastic or chipboard must be sheathed with a soft cloth on which the cat will be pleased to lie, and also build shelves if you decide to make a vertical structure.

By the way, you can also make a tunnel for a cat from simple cardboard boxes. This is a quick option, but the pet will certainly appreciate it. This will require several cardboard boxes. Holes are cut out in them according to the size of the cat, and the resulting parts are glued into a single structure. In such a tunnel, you can make dead-end zones, or you can build a real labyrinth for the whole room.

When choosing a tunnel for a pet, be careful. Focus on his preferences, character and habits.

If he likes to climb on the closet, explores the shelves, he will probably appreciate the vertical models. If you have more than one cat, it is better to choose more complex designs in which pets can play together.
