pinnates
The genus Cinnamon (scientific name Myriophyllum) has 69 species as of 2019. The plant is cosmopolitan, grows on all continents except Antarctica. Most of the species are native to Australia, however, representatives from the shores of South America are the most popular in aquariums.
They are found naturally in shallow waters in stagnant bodies of water such as lakes, swamps, backwaters, and along the water’s edge on wet substrates and periodically flooded coastlines.
A characteristic feature of all species is the structure and arrangement of the leaves, which is reflected in the name of the genus. Leaf blades consist of many thin needle-like fragments, resembling a feather in structure.
They can equally successfully be used in aquariums, paludariums and open ponds during the warm season. South American Peristoli are generally unpretentious and adapt well to various conditions, which has led to their popularity. These species will be a good choice for a beginner aquarist. The rest, for example, Australian and Madagascar, are more capricious and need nutritious soils and the presence of certain trace elements necessary for healthy growth.
