Maintenance and care, arrangement of the aquarium

Pecilia Hawaiian

Recommended aquarium sizes for a group of 3-4 fish start at 50-60 liters. Arrangement is optional. The presence of shelters in the form of thickets of aquatic plants is welcome. The Hawaiian platy prefers warm, slightly alkaline water with high values of total hardness. However, other media with lower pH and GH values are acceptable. Due to this unpretentiousness, this species is considered a good choice for a beginner aquarist.

Food. Omnivorous species, accepts most popular dry foods (flakes, pellets) of a suitable size, as well as live or frozen invertebrates such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, mosquito larvae, etc. The daily diet should include herbal supplements, otherwise fish can begin to damage the soft parts of aquatic plants.

Behavior / compatibility. As tankmates, almost any aquarium fish of comparable size and temperament will do.

Breeding / breeding

Like all other viviparous species, Pecilia are born fully formed, bypassing the egg stage. To be more precise, eggs do exist, but they develop in the body of the female. In a favorable environment, new offspring can appear almost every month. The incubation period lasts an average of 26–30 days at a water temperature of 22–26°C. It is possible to cross with other varieties of Pecilia. Under certain circumstances, hybrid offspring with a closely related Swordtail may appear, but this is extremely rare in home aquaria.
